Interview process

If your application gets selected, chances are the hiring managers already see merit in you. There will be a series of interviews that you will be subjected to. Unless you are an exceptional candidate, it is not a quick process. It has several layers to it.

The first interview will most likely be a telephonic interview with an HR professional. They will check basic details on your resume and will find out your availability and other basic details. If they confirm that your resume and the information they got from you are not fake, they will forward your profile to the next layer of hiring managers.

To crack the next levels of interview, you must research a bit on the job role you have applied for. You will be asked to do sample tasks and questions that will check if you are suited for the role. Next layers are technical interview/s.

Site visit day

If you clear all telephonic interviews, you will be asked to visit the site. On the day you visit the office, you will meet with the team/ teams that you will probably be working with if selected. You can get a sense of the space, work style and experience Microsoft to decide if that is the place for you.

Even if you are unaware of it, your behaviour will be studied closely on that day. Psychometric tests will be conducted and interviews will feature questions that understand your responses in situations from your past. Hypothetical scenarios will be thrown at you and you’ll be asked to answer your response to those.

The interviews you face on that site visit day will check if you fit into the specific project, role and the team. You might be asked to work on the project, while verbalizing your thought process as you go about it. This is because Microsoft does not believe in the end result alone. They want to look at your thought process.

Do not make false promises. If you find yourself not knowing any specific topic, admit it. Microsoft believes in gradual learning and straight forward employees.

Microsoft On Campus Recruitment procedure:

If you are a graduate from one of those rare colleges from which Microsoft hires, you’ll have to write a 2 hour test and attend an interview if you get qualified. You need to be thorough in the basic coding languages and algorithms to fare well through this round.

The first part of the two hour test is for an hour. It will ask you to write, test, check and alter codes to get a specific output for two scenarios. The second part, which is also for an hour will have you write code for a question. The qualified will be interviewed.

The interview will be made to get a sense of your general traits and behaviour. You can take a look at our interview tips that are carefully curated from the table in the article above.
